This course is designed to clarify some of the perplexing residential building code and energy code requirements regularly encountered in remodeling and new construction by providing the background and intent of these code requirements along with solutions to compliance that are informative and logical. A wide range of subjects will be addressed, including, but not limited to administrative, structural, life-safety, energy and administrative. This course will be presented in a question and answer format based on the current 2015 Minnesota residential codes.
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize the requirements in the International Residential Code (IRC) along with the State of Minnesota amendments related to the design and construction of single-family homes and townhouses
- Recognize many of the industry standards in the building and energy code related to materials and methods of installation
- Identify the alternatives to prescriptive provisions in the building and energy code
- Locate the specific requirements of the code provisions
