Learn how authentic stile and rail construction techniques and modern green building materials can combine to open up new opportunities in door design. Students will learn how to leverage modern manufacturing methods to receive custom, made-to-order doors that offer fine architectural detail while meeting LEED requirements for recycled content and indoor air quality. Trends in door construction and design will also be reviewed and discussed in detail.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about the history of door construction and how door designs evolved over the centuries, door construction and the components that make up doors
  • Learn how to utilize door component options and how they can transform basic doors in to doors that match the architecture of the building
  • Learn about the important role MDF (medium-density fiberboard) plays in millwork today and how it’s an environmentally friendly material
