2017 Legislator of the Year Award Winners
Representative Dennis Smith & Senator Dan Hall
During the 2017 legislative session Senator Hall and Representative Smith championed legislation that will have a positive impact for Minnesota’s housing industry for years to come.
Establishing a public notice for housing moratorium has been a housing industry priority for nearly a decade. Thanks to the leadership of Senator Hall during the legislative session, municipalities are now required to provide a 10-day notice before enacting a moratorium related to housing.
A healthy housing market includes a wide variety of options to meet the market needs. For many years, the condo/townhome market faced barriers due to the states’ construction defect laws. Thanks to legislation carried by Representative Smith, many of those barriers have been removed and condo/townhome development is growing.
